learn to play the piano like a pro (06)
Cavatina
We don't know what Stanley Meyers original composed - if it does exist it is not available. Cavatina in a musical term means a short, uncomplicated song so it is likely it was original composed as such.Very early the composition was extended (in-between measure 35 and 36 of my score) and slightly modified to be performed by guitar player John Williams. Without the extended part the composition was also presented as a song : "He (She) was beautiful". The John Williams version became famous in the film "the deer hunter" and this in turn, in a Cecil Bolton piano arrangement, became the piano notes we can have.
The John Williams version might be great in an arrangement with guitar, strings etc but it is not suitable for solo piano. Especially the extended part is very strange and destroys the melody. My arrangement is very accurate and somewhat close to the song version. It is made easy to play. Notice that you are shifting between left and right hand regardless if it is melody or cord. In the play example I don't play the coda and thus it is shorten 50 %.
This song is not suitable for rubato free style playing.
Hey Paula
This song is straightforward. It is very easy to play rubato free style to this song. It is undoubtedly the easiest song on my list. On the other hand the song is not so easy to learn by heart because it is very long with changing repeats. To overcome this you could make your own version of the song - you are playing the piano and you can do whatever you like and no one will ever discover it!
A little hint to end the song : When you play the last cord G arpeggio finish with f sharp (leading note to g) and then G block cord. This little trick can be used in many song endings.

Fly me to the moon
This is a very professional arrangement. I have made a full arrangement you can complement with rubato free style playing. Or more specifically some parts in the song. When you see and hear the video it becomes obvious which parts. It is how the song is build - to some parts you can play rubato and some definitely not. I can not change the song - yes I could but then it would not be "Fly me to the moon".
Fly me to the moon is in the key of E flat major and not C major (it was only Frank Sinatra who was not comfortable with the high E flat major). In the video is only played the first part - due to space limitations.
